While the other kids in high school sped off to McDonalds & Burger King as soon as class got out, my vegan ass was headed straight home to throw a box of Trader Joe’s frozen tempura vegetables in the oven.
Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside sweet potato slices and green beans that had a perfect balance of fresh veggie inside to fried battered goodness outside. The kale & onion birds nests always managed to come out greasy and were never my favorite; so you can imagine my dissapointment when I found out they phased out the variety veggie packs for boxes of all birds nests. Have you ever had a go-to product that was suddenly discontinued?
Granted these green beans aren’t battered nor fried but the coating of ground sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast, panko crumbs, cayenne pepper, smoked salt, paprika, & freshly ground pepper kicked ass. Breaded & baked foods can get super crunchy if you skimp on the oil; the sunflower seeds kept these on the softer side without being limp or greasy.
